5 players that lost the MLB offseason
3) Yoenis Cespedes
When Yoenis Cespedes came over to the New York Mets from the Detroit Tigers via a trade deadline day transaction, he was seen as the savior of the poor hitting team.
Well, that would come true as Cuban outfielder hit .287 with 17 home runs and 44 RBI in just 57 games. This would help carry the team into their first World Series appearance since 2000.
When Cespedes was on this hot streak, some speculated he could get a massive contract worth around $150 to 200 million in the MLB offseason. His combined stats from the 2015 season included 35 home runs and 105 RBI.
However, the former Oakland Athletic is still sitting in free agency.
Cespedes was tied to the Orioles this offseason before they re-signed Chris Davis (h/t ESPN). This would have been a logical fit with Gerardo Parra bolting. With that off the table, he hasn’t been linked elsewhere except for a few mentions of a short-term deal to return to the Big Apple.
With some top and other mid-level bats off the market, maybe now is the time Cespedes will get an offer that he will accept.
