The Boston Celtics came into this season with people and fans incessantly bickering about just how good this team actually was. Sure, they made it to the postseason last year, but they are still a team without a clear-cut superstar and with several glaring holes throughout their roster. Even with the obvious problems on the roster, though, the Celtics are again setting themselves up for relative success in the East.

The Celtics, like so many other teams in the conference, have been up and down in the conference standings as the race in the East is just that tight right now. However, they are clearly in position to make it back into the playoffs and, when they’ve been at their peak, they have looked like a team that could be a tough out once they make it to the postseason. That being said, their lack of alpha dog on the offensive end outside of Isaiah Thomas is certainly a concern, as is the lack of a presence of a consistent big man in their frontcourt rotation.

More than most teams in the NBA, Boston seems like a team that is one trade away from really making a jump in terms of the standings and performance. Even without that move being made, though, they are clearly a talented, exceptionally well-coached team that deserves credit for what they’ve done with this roster as it’s currently constructed.
