Just about everything that you could expect to go wrong for the Brooklyn Nets has since the franchise got into the hands of eccentric owner Mikhail Prokhorov. Now, the team is left to deal with a slew of poor decisions made over the past few years by the front office and is dealing with the unpleasant consequences.

Make no mistake that Nets center Brook Lopez has been fantastic to watch this season as he’s arguably the best offensive center in the entire league. However, that’s been just about the lone bright spot for this Nets team with not a great deal of hope. Jarrett Jack was performing admirably at point guard, but suffered a torn ACL and meniscus that effectively ended his season. Moreover, their lone young bright spot in terms of first-round draft choices in Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has been out for over a month with an ankle injury, thus further killing this team’s spirit.

If Brooklyn were playing this terribly with the light of a lottery pick at the end of the tunnel, it would be a little bit easier to stomach. However, the Celtics own the Nets’ first-round pick this season, thus meaning that the Nets are all but ensuring that a rival in the East in getting a top-five pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. That’s about as bad as it can get for a team.
