Erik Spoelstra

Erik Spoelstra is without a doubt the best head coach that LeBron James has had in the NBA. Spoelstra had a tough job after Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron all signed with the Heat after the 2009-2010 NBA season. He had to deal with the pressure of having the expectation to win championships. He had to deal with keeping three superstars happy and content while dealing with lots of new pieces. It’s hard to argue that he didn’t have a ton of success with the Heat reaching the Finals in four straight seasons and winning two consecutive NBA titles.

Spoelstra had the most talent of any of LeBron’s coaches. That’s undeniable. However, David Blatt had a lot of talent and couldn’t gain the respect of the Cavaliers and got out-coached by a rookie head coach in Steve Kerr. Yes, Blatt was a rookie coach too. However, Blatt had a lot of experience in Europe before joining the Cavaliers in 2014. It’s inexcusable to be that out-coached by a rookie coach when you have the experience that Blatt does.

Spoelstra currently has the Miami Heat fighting for a playoff spot without LeBron so that proves that he is still at least a good head coach. He will never get the credit that he deserves for helping LeBron James win two titles.
