Ideally, Komarov shouldn’t be on one of your top two forward lines. However, he would be an upgrade over what the Montreal Canadiens currently have. Komarov has been scoring at an impressive rate this season. Before this season, he had a total of 12 career goals in two seasons. He already has 16 this season. He also has 14 assists and 30 points entering January 23rd. Not only that, his contract is very reasonable too. He’s still under control for two seasons after this one with a cap hit of $2,950,000.

Even when Komarov isn’t scoring, he does a lot of things well. He plays a very physical game, making him at worst a perfect checking line wing. He is one of the most underrated defensive forwards in the league. He can contribute during the power play and the penalty kill.

The Montreal Canadiens would likely need to give up a first or second round pick for Komarov. It’s something that they should at least consider doing if Marc Bergevin wants to save his job. Not only that, trading for Komarov would be making a statement to the locker room that the front office believes in them and wants to win a Stanley Cup. Not an ideal situation, but it’s the situation that the Canadiens are in right now.
