High Salary D

Erik Karlsson-Ottawa Senators ($7,400): Karlsson continues to be one of the best fantasy options available at defenseman. He’s riding a four-game point streak with six points over that stretch. He’s a master at dishing the puck and is up to 41 assists for the season. He’s rolling right now, and although the Rangers present a tough matchup, Karlsson is a must-start right now. His average of 4.7 fantasy points a game ranks second tonight among available wingers.

Mark Giordano-Calgary Flames ($6,600): Giordano has continued to roll lately with points in two straight games and 10 points in the last nine games. He has 10 goals and 19 assists through 45 games this season. His production has continued to rise, and so has his price tag. Giordano is averaging 4.5 fantasy points a game and has become an excellent fantasy option. Tonight’s opponent, Carolina, is ranked 11th against opposing defensemen. That doesn’t make for the best matchup on paper, but Giordano is hot right now and needs to be used.

High Value D

Ryan McDonagh-New York Rangers ($5,100): McDonagh extended his point streak to four games on Friday night with a goal against Carolina. New York’s captain was struggling earlier this month, failing to pick up a point in the first five games of January, but has really come on since then. McDonagh has seven points in his last seven games and has been very good to his fantasy owners over that time with an average of 4.5 fantasy points a game. A very favorable matchup with Ottawa awaits him tonight. McDonagh should be considered one of the three top options at defenseman Sunday.

Colton Parayko-St. Louis Blues ($4,700): Parayko has a good matchup tonight and makes for a good value pick at defenseman. He will be facing the Blackhawks, a team ranked 21st against opposing defensemen. Parayko Missed a game on January 20 due to illness and then failed to pick up a point on January 22, but had a two-game point streak prior to that. He is averaging 2.8 fantasy points per game. That’s a number owners would like to have a little higher, but on a day with limited options, Parayko can be useful to fantasy lineups.
