Don’t be fooled by the seemingly innocuous embrace being shared in the photo above by two of today’s most competitive quarterbacks. Make no mistake: these guys do not like each other one bit.

Back in 2007, Jay Cutler played for the Denver Broncos, so he faced Philip Rivers’ Chargers twice a year. The two AFC West rival teams already share a mutual disdain for one another, but that hatred boiled over in a Monday Night Football game when cameras captured their quarterbacks jawing at one another during a TV timeout. Down 20 points, Cutler clearly isn’t a happy camper, and Rivers is all too eager to rub it in.

Of course, it wasn’t long after that Cutler moved to the NFC North and the Chicago Bears, so the two fiery athletes don’t square off as much as they used to. While both have chalked up the incident to game emotions and uber-competitiveness, Cutler has gone on record before as saying he’s “just not that big a fan of the guy” and that he doesn’t “like how he carries himself; I don’t like some of the stuff he does on the field.”
