LA Galaxy may be getting another foreign infusion if brutish midfielder Nigel De Jong’s AC Milan exit has anything to do with the MLS side.
Nigel De Jong has completed his exit from AC Milan after playing for just 373 minutes in Serie A this year. FOX Sports indicates that it was a mutual agreement to terminate the contract of the 31 year old, citing the club’s official statement, which read:
“AC Milan announces that Nigel de Jong’s contract with the club has been mutually terminated today. AC Milan would like to thank the Dutchman for his determination, commitment and professionalism shown during his time with the red and black colors. We wish him all the success possible and all the very best for the next stage of his career.”
The Dutchman has been linked to LA Galaxy in the past and those rumors are only intensifying with his newly-found free agent status.
It was just a day ago that news broke that LA Galaxy had officially landed Nigel De Jong but at the time, he was still residing in Italy. Now, it appears that it is just a matter of time before he moves stateside.
The deal is said to be worth less than $1 million.
A hard tackling midfielder, De Jong can be brutish in the middle of the pitch, something that the MLS does not have an over abundance of. He may have fallen out of favor with AC Milan, but he is a respected member of the Netherlands national side, as he has notched over 80 caps with the club.
De Jong will be joining an ever-impressive LA Galaxy roster that includes Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane, Giovanni Dos Santos and Omar Gonzalez. The midfield will be bolstered considerably with the bulk of De Jong suiting up with them next season.
