Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn is teaming up with James Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade for a new film.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn came to prominence as a film director in 2011 with his highly stylized and hyper violent Ryan Gosling vehicle Drive. He is further known for his other Gosling collaboration, Only God Forgives, and the Tom Hardy-led prison film Bronson.

Refn also has a new movie coming out in 2016 starring Jena Malone and Keanu Reeves called The Neon Demon.

Now, Refn is working with James Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade on a new film that Refn will direct.

Deadline, which broke the story, is saying that the film is still in its early stages, but that it is set to have an Asian setting and will have thriller and action genre elements to it.

Purvis and Wade are the writing team behind the Pierce Brosnan Bond films The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day and have worked on the scripts of all of the Daniel Craig Bond outings. The pair also co-wrote the spy spoof movie Johnny English.

Hearing about another action thriller from Nicolas Winding Refn is enough to get this Bond fan excited. Add to this the writing team behind some of the best (and admittedly some of the lesser) Bond films, and there is potential for a big blockbuster Refn extravaganza.

Just imagine a film like Drive with more spy intrigue and suave action set pieces. Doesn’t that get you excited?
