49. DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story

Year: 2004
Sport: Dodgeball
Starring: Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor, Ben Stiller, Rip Torn, Justin Long
Director: Rawson Marshall Thurber

Easily the most outrageous film on this list, DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story is deserving of its spot in the Top 50. It’s purposefully over the top, yet somehow manages to maintain its integrity and provide viewers with a number of memorable action scenes.

It may seem silly to include in the Top 50, but DodgeBall is as close to a unanimously loved sports comedy as you’ll find in the world of film.

Vince Vaughn stars as Peter LaFleur, owner of the small and welcoming gym, “Average Joes.” When LaFleur learns that he’s going to lose the gym to one of his competitors, he desperately searches for a way to make the $50,000 necessary to save his business.

What ensues is one of the most beloved comedies of the past 15 years, flush with entertaining action, priceless training scenes, and timeless comedy.

There are better sports movies than DodgeBall, but its ability to keep its viewers both laughing and on the edge of their seats is quite the accomplishment.

Ben Stiller’s character, White Goodman, remains one of the most popular of his career—quite the truth considering how many he’s portrayed. The rest of the odd ball cast perform with great chemistry as Average Joe’s fights for its life on ESPN Quatro.

Poll 10 people and you may get 10 different answers for what their favorite scene from DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story. There were that many moments to remember.
