NHL Trade Rumors: 5 moves Chicago Blackhawks should make
Trading for Trevor van Riemsdyk’s brother could be a risky move for the Chicago Blackhawks, as JVR is currently sidelined until late February or early March. However, the payoff could be huge. JVR has a very reasonable cap hit over the next few seasons and could be a permanent solution to the Blackhawks revolving door at left wing alongside Toews and Hossa.
JVR has 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points in 40 games this season for the Maple Leafs. He has a plus-minus rating of +3, a huge change from his -33 rating last season. He’d add an element of offense to the Blackhawks first line that they could really use and have missed since trading Brandon Saad. JVR also only has six penalty minutes. His cap hit would be a bit much, but the Blackhawks would have a first line that few teams could match.
Acquiring JVR would be no easy feat. The Chicago Blackhawks still have their 2016 first round pick but they don’t exactly have many elite prospects. Teuvo Teravainen could be an option but it is very doubtful that the Hawks want to get rid of such a talented young player. Ironically, Trevor van Riemsdyk might be a viable option to be a part of the trade.
The Chicago Blackhawks would need a minor miracle to pull off a trade for JVR. But the Bowmans have proven that they are capable of performing such minor miracles.
