Cam Newton will be named Super Bowl MVP.

For me, Cam Newton is this season’s NFL MVP. Of course, that doesn’t mean, well, anything when it comes to handing out Super Bowl MVP honors, but even against the best defense in the NFL Newton will be the best player on the field.

To be fair, quarterbacks are infinitely more likely to take home the MVP award than any other player on the field, and even if another member of Carolina’s roster has a similar performance, the “tie goes to the runner” for the quarterback position. This is a brutal matchup for any signal-caller, and Tom Brady can attest to just how dominant the Denver defense has been. Still, Newton’s ability to evade the rush with his size and speed will come in handy in this spot, and Carolina’s offensive line is at least marginally better than the product that New England put forth in the AFC Title Game.

This has been the “Year of Cam Newton,” and I don’t expect that to cease on the biggest stage available to an NFL player. It probably won’t be a dominant performance on the level of what occurred in the NFC Championship Game, and Newton may not produce incredible, eye-popping numbers as he has throughout the season. Still, his transcendent abilities will be on full display, and Newton will do just enough to chart his course for Disney World as Super Bowl MVP.
