Post-Super Bowl NFL Mock Draft 2016
By Brad Rowland
The offseason is here, so let’s Mock Draft.
Super Bowl 50 is now in the rear view mirror and, as a result, the unofficial start of the 2016-2017 NFL season is upon us. Of course, the “league year” is not quite underway, but NFL Draft coverage is now a year-round industry in and of itself and it is never too early to look ahead at this year’s class.
In this space, we will take a wild guess (and, yes, that is what this will be) at what the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft will look like when all is said and done. In the interest of clarity, this is entirely based on the players themselves and “team needs” as currently constructed, with absolutely no inside information or team sources contributing to this projection.
It is virtually impossible to actually project where the top 31 picks (yes, there are only 31 after New England was stripped of its 2016 first round selection) will land, but we can make educated projections that will inform the public. This year’s draft is exactly comprised of “sure thing” quarterbacks, making things quite interesting and challenging for the more casual fan to consume, but that also creates some intrigue and flexibility at the top of the draft order.
Things will undoubtedly change by leaps and bounds in the coming months, and that is the inevitability when you’re releasing a mock in early February. Still, we know the risks and kick this thing off in grand fashion, counting down from 1 to 31. Let’s roll.
