player. 30.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper has been on this train for years (read: decades) and I agree with him in a big way.

No NFL team should take a running back in the first round.

However, teams routinely ignore this principle as they are seduced by the talent of college backs, and Elliott is the latest to fall into this category. While I don’t think Elliott is on par with a player like Adrian Peterson in actually “deserving” a first-round selection, he does bring the profile of an upper-echelon NFL running back to the table, and the Jets are a team that would make some sense.

New York’s entire running back corps from 2015 is facing free agency, and if the Jets elected to go away from those players (namely Chris Ivory), Elliott could step in as the starter in 2016. He is incredibly electric and versatile as he displayed at Ohio State and, to be honest, it wouldn’t be a shock if Elliott was one of the ten best running backs in the NFL from moment one.

The Jets could really use some help at linebacker, making a player like Leonard Floyd an interesting fit as an edge player in the 3-4, and that is where they probably “should” go here. However, someone will take Elliott in the first round, and New York is that team in this instance.
. RB. Ohio State. Ezekiel Elliott. 20
