The Texans are in desperate need of a quarterback for the future, and it would be a surprise to me if they didn’t come away from the 2016 NFL Draft with a rookie to groom. Nailing down the exact player that Houston likes in this spot could be difficult, and some have projected that former Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien could tab his former signal-caller in Christian Hackenberg. However, Paxton Lynch grades out as the (much) better prospect at this point, and until there is more fire than smoke, Lynch makes more sense.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Lynch brings great size and arm strength to the table, and he has also displayed impressive athleticism and mobility while in college. There are concerns about his accuracy and general rawness at this point in the process, but at the back end of the first round, there will always be warts on a quarterback that remains available.

Houston’s roster is better than you think it would be, but without a quarterback, the Texans are seriously capped in their ability to make a legitimate playoff run. Paxton Lynch won’t fix that in a hurry, but the fan base needs someone to latch on to for the future, and his upside is very real.
. QB. Memphis. Paxton Lynch. 22. player. 10
