27. player. 49.
A lot of draft pundits are racing to assign a wide receiver or tight end to the Packers with the 27th overall pick, but Green Bay has shown no willingness to invest a pick of that magnitude on a pass-catcher. In addition, Jordy Nelson’s presumptive return would solve a lot of problems for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense, and the Packers would be smart to invest in a position for the future and the present. That position is defensive tackle.

B.J. Raji has an extensive injury history and he will be a 30-year-old unrestricted free agent this off-season. In picking a player like Andrew Billings, the Packers would be granted the flexibility to let Raji walk if they choose, and if they can retain Raji on a reduced contract, Billings is a fantastic and versatile athlete that could learn and contribute as immediate depth.

The 310-pound defensive tackle profiles as a player who would be an immediate terror against the run in the NFL, and he also displays the explosiveness to get into the backfield to disrupt both against the run and the pass. Green Bay isn’t a team without holes, but the Packers would be getting a great value at a position of relative need with Billings, and that is always a strong combination in the NFL Draft.
. DT.
