8. player. 59.
The Dolphins are in a very interesting spot in that they probably need help at linebacker more than they do in an edge rusher. However, Myles Jack is off the board in this scenario, and with the injury concerns of Jaylon Smith (who had a more serious injury later in the calendar than Jack), there isn’t a linebacker worthy of this choice.

Lawson is the best defensive end available in my mind, and with Olivier Vernon about to hit unrestricted free agency, the Dolphins could also really use the help in the pass rushing department. The former Clemson star led the country with 25.5 (!) tackles for loss during the 2015 season, and Lawson could immediately become a terror to opposing quarterbacks at the NFL level.

In addition to fantastic characteristics as a pass rusher, Lawson also graded quite well against the run during his final collegiate season, and he brings strong size to the table at 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds. Miami’s rushing defense ranked 28th in the NFL during the 2015 campaign, and while that is not why they would draft Lawson, it certainly helps to have balance.

If the draft plays out in this fashion, the Dolphins should probably consider moving out of this pick in search of a more appropriate linebacker selection point, but Shaq Lawson is a nice value choice with upside.
. DE. Clemson. Shaq Lawson
