22. 1975 Pittsburgh Steelers (SB X)

The Steelers show up in back-to-back spots in these rankings with No. 21 being right in the heart of the Steel Curtain era for the Pittsburgh defense. They slot in just a bit higher than the 1979 Steelers as they were just a bit more dominant as a whole on the regular season and just more impressive as a whole in the regular season and the playoffs.

Behind the Steel Curtain unit on the defensive side of the ball, the Steelers posted the second-best scoring unit in the league in the 1975 regular season as they only allowed 11.6 points per game. Though their offense wasn’t as good as the 1979 team would be in terms of where they ranked in the league (No. 2 in 1979, No. 5 in 1975), they actually averaged 0.6 more points per game in the 1975 season behind Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris, making for a great 15.1 points per game differential.

There’s no denying the regular season success of this team as they went 12-2 on the year. Had the Steelers been a bit more dominant in the postseason, they probably would’ve been higher in these rankings. However, they found themselves in real battles after beating the Colts in the Divisional Round as they only beat the Raider 16-10 in the AFC title game and only topped the Cowboys by a score of 21-17 in the big game. Even still, the 1975 Steelers were a fantastic team.
