Super Bowl power rankings: Which winner is the greatest?
15. 2016 New England Patriots (SB LI)
New England might be the greatest dynasties of all time, and this game could have cemented that. The Patriots trailed the Atlanta Falcons 28-3 in this contest, deep in the third quarter, only to come back and score 31 unanswered points in the greatest rally in NFL history.
For Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, the win was their fifth Super Bowl title, putting them in a class all by themselves. Previously, the only quarterback-head coach tandem to win four was Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Noll with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the late 70s.
As for the regular season, New England was its typically dominant force. The Patriots went 14-2 and won the AFC East. In the postseason, Belichck and Co. rolled past the overwhelmed Houston Texans to reach their sixth consecutive AFC Championship Game. Once there, the Patriots dismantled the Steelers to reach Super Bowl LI.
While this isn’t the best Patriots team of the era, it belongs right up there. Brady is still playing at an elite level, while the defense was able to do the job behind Dont’a Hightower, Chris Long and Malcolm Butler.
