12. 1966 Green Bay Packers (SB I)

Before the institution of the Super Bowl Game, Vince Lombardi coached a handful of Green Bay Packers teams that would have easily cracked the top-10 and potentially the top-five of these rankings. However, with no Super Bowl, those teams aren’t Super Bowl winners. Even still, the 1966 Packers and the winners in the inaugural big game were undeniably great and worthy of getting their shine in these rankings.

Over the course of a 12-2 regular season, the Packers finished with the fourth-best offense in the NFL behind the great Bart Starr and with the help of the dynamic running back duo of Jim Taylor and Elijah Pitts. However, it was the No. 1-ranked defense in Green Bay that carried Lombardi’s team with the likes of Herb Adderley, Lee Roy Caffey, and Dave Robinson leading the way on that side of the ball.

The Packers found themselves in a battle in their first playoff game as they narrowly edged out the Cowboys in the NFL Championship game. However, they dominated the Chiefs in the first ever Super Bowl to the tune of a 35-10 victory and undeniably established themselves as one of the all-time greats beyond just being the first Super Bowl champs in the history of the game.
