8. Kansas City Chiefs

If there’s an award for the Biggest Surprise in 2015, it should go to Kansas City. Left for dead after their best player was lost to season-ending injury (again), the Jamaal Charles-less Chiefs rallied around one another and went on an 11-win streak tear before coming crashing back down to earth in a playoff loss to the Patriots.

That kind of statistical turnaround speaks for itself, but it’s also worth noting that Kansas City’s final record of 11-5 was just one win shy of the best mark in the AFC. The Chiefs have now gone 11-5 in two of Andy Reid’s three seasons as head coach, qualifying for the playoffs both times. Perhaps most impressive of all was the team’s wild card shutout win over Houston a couple weeks ago, Kanas City’s first NFL playoff victory in 22 years.

No disrespect to the Super Bowl-winning Denver Broncos, but the Chiefs should enter next season as the early favorites to win their division and again finish with one of the best records in the AFC – especially if and when Peyton Manning decides to retire.
