3. Caron Butler to Milwaukee

Caron Butler has already had one homecoming with Milwaukee in his career, but there were reports earlier this season from ESPN’s Marc Stein that the Kings could be looking to send Butler back home to the Milwaukee Bucks.

At the trade deadline, the Kings could help themselves out and Butler out by sending him to the Bucks. It’s another minor deal, but it’s one that could provide a little flexibility as well.

One way is to send Butler to Milwaukee for the expiring contract of center Miles Plumlee. Plumlee’s deal is up at the end of the season and he could add depth at the end of the bench for Sacramento if they needed it.

It’s hard to get excited for minor deals in the NBA, but the Kings don’t have much in future draft assets, so picking up extra cap flexibility anywhere they can could go a long way as they try to build around the duo of DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo.

The good news is that with the salary cap about to spike, any flexibility added makes it easier to attract better players in the off-season to go with Cousins and Rondo. It also could make it easier for them to get in on trades and facilitate deals and take on contracts as well that usually come with assets.

It’s the small moves that help lead to the big moves.
