5 replacements for Marc Gasol
4. J.J. Hickson
The Denver Nuggets currently own the Memphis Grizzlies’ draft pick this year if the Grizzlies miss the playoffs and the pick falls between the No. 6 and No. 14 pick. However, that doesn’t mean that the two sides can’t hook up on a deal to help each other out.
The Grizzlies should aim to get J.J. Hickson from the Nuggets. Hickson has been playing center for the Nuggets and with the emergence of Nikola Jokic, Hickson should be expendable to a contender for an asset. The Grizzlies would have to send back some semblance of expiring contracts to match salary, but Hickson should be a cheap pick-up.
He’s not the tallest center in the world at 6-9, but he’s a veteran player with plenty of experience and that’s what the Grizzlies need as they try to hold on.
Hickson is playing just a little over 15 minutes a game in Denver, but if he could play between 20 – 25 minutes in Memphis, that could go a long way in holding the fort down.
At this point of the season, the options are going to be limited and Memphis is just looking for a temporary option until Gasol comes back anyways.
