3) Scott Brooks Could Coach the Lakers

When Scott Brooks was coaching with the Oklahoma City Thunder, it was no secret that he and Kevin Durant had a strong relationship. Once Brooks was fired in 2015, speculation began as to if this would prompt Durant to leave the organization once he fit free agency.

Last week, a report came out about head coach Byron Scott coaching for his job for the rest of this season (h/t Lake Show Life). If that’s the case and this team continues to trend down, he’ll be fired once games finish in April.

If the Lakers are that desperate to sign Durant, they could hire Brooks to become the team’s new coach. This would be all about bringing in the 2016 NBA offseason’s top free agent. Giving him a coach he is comfortable with could go a long way in heading over the LA.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak contact Brooks before free agency begins because he might have to lock him up before signing Durant. There could be the argument of letting him choose the next coach, but that would not look too good in having the team’s newly-acquired star player directing organizational moves.

If the Lakers want Durant, adding Brooks as the team’s coach would be a wise decision.
