With the Atlanta Hawks shamelessly entertaining constant trade discussions with regards to point guard Jeff Teague, might a trade with the Kings for Rondo be one of intrigue?

At this stage of their careers, both Teague and Rondo are better than average starting NBA point guards. Swapping both former All-Stars could potentially be mutually beneficial if this man-for-man trade would occur.

Teague would bring in a quite leadership style that could transform the dysfunctional Kings organization. He would have a great pick-and-roll partnership with center DeMarcus Cousins and would provide a better all-around game than Rondo can shooting the basketball or playing a lick of defense. Teague on the Kings could make them a playoff contender when they move into Golden 1 Center in Downtown Sacramento next fall.

Rondo would still probably want to start for the Hawks, but his biggest idol is current Hawks’ backup point guard Dennis Schroder. Atlanta may view Schroder as the point guard of the future for the organization and may actually flourish playing with and alongside his basketball idol.

Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer has worked with high-IQ point guards before like Tony Parker when Budenholzer was on Gregg Popovich’s staff with the San Antonio Spurs. Budenholzer’s player development program and coaching philosophies can reach even the most disinterested of players who just want to play and not be coached.

Rondo along with Schroder would give Atlanta a chance to compete at point guard if they do want to get something in return for Teague this trade deadline. Teague to the Kings would instantly make them a better team. Rondo to the Hawks could help the club in the long-term in grooming Schroder to become a star at the point in Atlanta.
