4. The Triangle Offense

It seems that any team put together by Phil Jackson will be running the triangle offense. This is the same offense that Jackson used to great success in Los Angeles and Chicago, earning him one shy of a dozen championships as a coach. As Kevin Durant watches Kobe Bryant receive a hero’s tribute in every basketball arena throughout the country, he should consider how the Black Mamba got to this point. Of course incredible athleticism, an insatiable competitive fervor and unstoppable work ethic, probably set the foundation for Bryant’s hall of fame career, but the triangle offense certainly facilitated that process.

Durant should look at two of the all time greats in Jordan and Bryant and see what he could maybe achieve. Both of those players were amazing athletes who fit the triangle offense perfectly. Durant’s prowess to play from the wings is nearly unparalleled, with unlimited range from behind the arc as well as the ability to slash and drive to the basket. Many critics say that the triangle offense is only useful when you have a player of Jordan’s or Bryant’s caliber to do the heavy lifting. Well in Kevin Durant the Knicks would have the elite level scorer that they need to make the system hum perfectly.

Kristaps Porzingis already embodies the strong low post focal point needed to make the system tick, similar to the role Pau Gasol played on the championship Lakers teams of 2009-2010. If Durant signed with the Knicks he could find himself in a similar position as two of the game’s foremost legends.
