NBA Trade Deadline 2016: 5 deals the Brooklyn Nets should make
By John Buhler
Trading power forward Thaddeus Young for power forward Kenneth Faried straight up is a deal that both the Brooklyn Nets and the Denver Nuggets should seriously consider. Both Young and Faried are on four-year deals worth $11,235,955.
So an exchanging of power forwards between the Nets and Nuggets won’t affect the ledger one bit, but the deal could serve as a means to simply shakeup both non-contending rosters. Faried is more of a physical to of power forward, while Young is a bit more finesse.
Young might be better able to play with pace in Denver than Faried, although Nuggets head coach Michael Malone doesn’t want to play quickly and use the mile high altitude to his advantage. With Young, maybe that gives him the belief that he now has the frontcourt that could run. Playing up-tempo in Denver with Young on the roster could get the Nuggets back in the Western Conference Playoffs sooner than later.
By bringing Faried to Brooklyn, he’d be better equipped to play his more physical brand of basketball in the low post against many of the strong bigs in the Eastern Conference. Pairing him alongside center Brook Lopez could give the Nets a dynamic All-Star caliber frontcourt duo to work around.
If Brooklyn brings in a coach that can get the most of out of his big men (Kevin McHale?), then maybe the Nets can turn this ship around quicker than expected. Trading Young for Faried could make both the Nets and Nuggets better as early as next year.
