2016 NFL offseason: New York Giants needs
Free Agent Targets
The Giants’ biggest need by far as they look ahead to 2016 is in their secondary where they were absolutely torched last season. Granted, some of that was due to a lack of pass rush, but it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising to see New York throw big money at the likes of Eric Berry and Sean Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs as they hit the open market. There are certainly other high-priced options and it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see the Giants pursue them.
Similarly, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Giants again look to make moves on their defensive line with their defensive ends entering free agency and veteran defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins doing the same. New York could look to swing for the fences on guys like Muhammad Wilkerson in this position or could look to go a more cost-effective route by looking at players like Olivier Vernon to help address the need on the defensive line.
With Randle likely departing in addition to Hakeem Nicks and possibly Cruz as well, the Giants will also likely be in the market for another possession wide receiver in free agency. The idea of them pursuing players of the Marvin Jones and Rishard Matthews mold would be less than surprising if it were to happen.
While the Giants could also look to address what feels like a perpetual need in their linebacker core as Jon Beason is set to retire, that could be an area that they look to address early in the draft and use their money in free agency elsewhere.
