Manchester United

One of the most talked about moves for next season revolves around Manchester United and Jose Mourinho. Though the club has made no statement on the matter, it has not stopped the rumor mills from running rampant on the potential change. As the days tick by, many papers are already reporting that Jose Mourinho is very close to signing a pre-contract to take over as the Red Devils manager this summer.

However, one issue that could stop this potential blockbuster marriage is the club’s current manager, Louis van Gaal. The former Dutch manager has stated on many occasions his plans for next season, dismissing the notion that Manchester United management has been in touch with the “Special One.”

With another year on his contract and the amount of money the Red Devils have already injected into the squad over the past two summers, could the United management be prepared to throw it all away and once again begin fresh? With the current state of the squad, it is likely Jose Mourinho would demand a blank check and total control over both the purchases and sales of players.

If the rumors are true, the ball remains firmly in the Red Devils court. Is management — which has in the past refused to admit when it has made a mistake — prepared to turn over total control and an open checkbook to another manager. The deciding factor could be the current board’s belief in van Gaal and whether he can right the ship and return the club to a potential title position.
