Real Madrid

This could be one of the biggest moves in the history of football. Jose Mourinho returning to Real Madrid, a club where, for all matters, he underachieved at. Reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League three straight seasons but failing to advance, as well as finishing second to Barcelona two of the three seasons, eventually led to Mourinho’s sacking in June of 2013.

Following his sacking, Mourinho moved on to make a return to Chelsea. Though he was sacked as manager at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, the move came after a season where Mourinho led Chelsea to victory in the League Cup and a Premier League title, effectively proving that he still has what it takes to manage at the top level.

What could make this surprise move possible could be the current state at Real Madrid. While the club did win the Champions League title in 2014 under Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos have failed to win a La Liga title since 2011-2012 — Mourinho’s second season with the club. Currently sitting third in the table, Real Madrid trail leaders Barcelona by four points and also are currently sat behind Atletico Madrid.

While Real Madrid might have faith in Zinedine Zidane as a manager with loads of potential, the club has never been one to wait for the development of it’s players or managers. If Zidane fails to lead Madrid to a La Liga or Champions League title this season, the club could take action and bring back the biggest name available in management, Jose Mourinho.
