Atletico Madrid

With most of the major clubs already filling their plans for manager next season, one major opening in the Premier League has the opportunity to change the landscape of potential Jose Mourinho landing spots. That opening is at Mourinho’s former club, Chelsea. Should Chelsea’s pursuit of Diego Simone conclude in his appointment at Stamford Bridge, Mouriho could be the odd on favorite to replace him at Atletico Madrid.

Having managed their city rivals Real Madrid for three seasons, the opportunity to manage at Atletico would give the “Special One” the opportunity to finally take down his old club. This move would also give Jose Mourinho something that very few other clubs could. An immediate chance to compete. While Real Madrid and Manchester United have the cash and talent, it could take at least a season for the club to take down their respective league leaders.

At Atletico Madrid, the club is built on players’ chemistry and combined skill. Adding a couple of pieces to the club while retaining some of its top stars could enable Jose Mourinho to manager the cub to another league title and possibly a deep run into the UEFA Champions League.

However, this possible move has a lot of major issues. The biggest caveat being that an opening would only occur should Chelsea or another club sign Diego Simone as their next manager. With Atletico unlikely to let their manager leave without a fight, this move has to be one of the biggest long shots for Jose Mourinho.
