High Salary Defensemen

Erik Karlsson – Ottawa Senators ($7,800): Karlsson has been a bit of a polarizing figure as he seeks his third Norris Trophy. Whether or not you think he’s deserving of winning it is irrelevant because he is yet again the best defensemen available for your fantasy hockey team. He justifies his price because with his unreal scoring, it’s basically like having an elite forward in your lineup. Karlsson has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points with 39 shots on goal over his last ten games. His price is steep, but if you can find a way to get him into your lineup, by all means do it. He averages 4.8 fantasy hockey points per game.

Dustin Byfuglien – Winnipeg Jets ($6,400): Byfuglien does it all. He gets you points, he gets you hits, he blocks shots, and he even throws in penalty minutes from time to time. Over his last ten games, Dustin has five goals and six assists for 11 points with 26 shots on goal, 25 hits, and seven blocked shots. Byfuglien has 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in 56 games this season for the Jets. He averages 3.7 fantasy hockey points per game.

Drew Doughty – Los Angeles Kings ($6,200): Doughty has been struggling to score this season but over his last ten games, he has been heating up. He has four goals and seven assists for 11 points with 21 shots on goal, 10 hits, and eight blocked shots over his last ten games. Doughty faces a tough matchup tonight against the high-octane offense of the Capitals but he’s still a solid option. He averages 3.3 fantasy points per game.

High Value Defensemen

Shayne Gostisbehere – Philadelphia Flyers ($5,400): The Ghost Bear’s point streak has hit 12 games. That’s absolutely insane from a rookie defenseman. He’s so hot right now that he is a must add to your lineup until his point streak is over. Shayne has 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points in 37 games this season. He should get serious consideration for the Calder Trophy. The Flyers rookie defenseman averages 3.4 fantasy hockey points per game (including 4.3 per game over his last ten games).

Hampus Lindholm – Anaheim Ducks ($4,200): Lindholm has been a huge reason for the Ducks turnaround this season. He has four goals in his past ten games with nine hits, 14 blocked shots, and 28 shots on goal. Hampus has 15 points this season in 54 games. The Ducks defenseman is an attractive option going against the Oilers while averaging 2.5 fantasy hockey points per game.

David Schlemko – New Jersey Devils ($3,600): Looking for a dirt cheap value option for tonight? Schlemko is your man. He has 16 points in 49 games this season for the Devils. Nearly half of those points have come over his last ten games. During that period, David has seven points (three goals and four assists) with 13 blocked shots and 19 shots on goal. The Flyers have not done well against defensemen this season, making him a sleeper pick for tonight’s action. He averages two fantasy points per game (including 3.3 per game over his last ten games).
