NBA trade deadline: 5 trade destinations for Dwight Howard
By John Buhler
For the Houston Rockets to want to part ways with Howard, Houston will want as much as they can get in return for their former All-Star center.
One team that could offer Morey more than he could even shake a finger at is the countless stockpiled assets Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has accumulated over the years since blowing up The Big Three/Four.
Howard would probably consider resigning with the Celtics given the outstanding basketball culture that surrounds the NBA’s most storied franchise. He can look up at the rafters and see all the NBA Championships Bill Russell and Larry Bird won and think to himself that he could hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy while wearing Celtic green at The Garden.
Boston is playing fantastically already this season, as the Celtics have the third best record in the Eastern Conference entering the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday. However, for the Celtics to emerge as a legitimate threat to win the East, they are going to need a superstar player to help get them there.
The Celtics could send the Rockets forward Jae Crowder and one of their stockpiled first round picks for Howard’s services this spring and potentially later this summer. It’s up in the air if Howard will buy into Brad Stevens’ coaching philosophies, but Boston is one team he could end up playing for by the end of the week.
