Free Agents to Target

The Saints have handed out some big contracts in free agency in the past few years and they haven’t gotten the return value on those deals that they would have liked. For the Saints to be successful this free agency period, they have to go for value deals.

Handing out big money cap straps a team and then it really stings even more down the road when dead money takes away from their cap because they overspent on a guy and have to cut him. The Saints have plenty of dead money against the cap and should look to target value.

An area the Saints need to shore up is the cornerback spot. While they have Delvin Breaux at one spot, they need to shore up the second cornerback spot. Damian Swann has talent, but he also has had concussion issues and the Saints will need to target more depth at the spot.

One player that could fit in for New Orleans is Jerraud Powers. Powers has spent the last three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and was a productive cornerback for them. The Cardinals have plenty of other areas to target and could be looking for other options at the spot.

He’s considered one of the smartest guys on their roster, which could be invaluable for the Saints’ defense. Along with Powers, the Saints should also target tight end depth and offensive line depth. The Saints would be better served to look in the draft for offensive line depth, as they can have young controllable offensive lineman for a while.
