Draft Plan

After another 7-9 season, the Saints could use help at just about every position. However, they have some areas that are of in more needs than other. They need edge defenders, linebackers, offensive line depth, secondary depth and probably could use running back depth.

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will lead the Saints’ defense this season, after the team fired Rob Ryan during the season last year. It’s a strong draft for defense and it would serve the Saints well to go defensive heavy in this draft. Getting EDGE defenders and a solid linebacker core to go with Stephone Anthony is a must.

While the team has done a good job of drafting pieces on the offensive line, they could use more depth there, as they just released Jahri Evans and Zach Strief had a down season. The running back stable includes Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller and Khiry Robinson, but they are all injury prone and the team can’t go into next season with three running backs that could go down at any moment.

The secondary has some pieces that could turn into stars, but they need more depth at both the cornerback and safety positions. It won’t be surprising to see the Saints target length and versatility early in the draft this season.
