Chad Henne has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal worth $8 million to re-sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Though Chad Henne is not a starting quarterback in the NFL anymore, the eight-year veteran has agreed to re-sign with the Jaguars. Rand Getlin of NFL Network reports that the 30-year-old backup to Blake Bortles has signed a two-year deal worth $8 million, with incentives included.

While Bortles ended up setting a franchise passing touchdowns record in only his second year in the league, it seems that the Jaguars have confidence in rolling with Henne as their backup quarterback for the next two years.

In a league where one play can knock a quarterback out for a season, it’s perhaps more important than ever to lock up a respectable backup quarterback, something many would classify Henne as. He has 53 career starts in 64 games between both AFC franchises in the State of Florida with the Miami Dolphins (2008-11) and the Jaguars (2012-present).

Henne is 18-35 as a starter, has thrown for 12,931 career passing yards, 58 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions. He never really amounted to starting quarterback material after going in the second round to Miami in the 2008 NFL Draft, but Henne has certainly built a career on being a capable backup the last few seasons in Florida.

Henne didn’t play for the Jaguars in 2015, as Bortles emerged as a legitimate franchise-caliber playmaker in 2015 in Greg Olson’s offensive system. The passing attack of the Jaguars is the club’s most explosive part of their team.

Though the Jaguars went 5-11 in 2015 and have the No. 5 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the organization is trending in the right direction, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. The organization apparently values continuity, as they have decided to bring back Henne for the next two centers to sit alongside Bortles in the quarterback room.
