Brooklyn Nets

Is there a more depressing situation in the NBA than the Brooklyn Nets? No. Emphatically no. You can talk all you want about the Philadelphia 76ers being a joke or Byron Scott not being qualified to coach at the YMCA, but the Nets just have the air of a hapless and hopeless franchise. They came into the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline with people hoping that they would try and get some assets and/or picks in exchange for Thaddeus Young, but that ultimately didn’t come to fruition.

It’s hard to blame other teams around the league for not going after any of the Nets’ assets considering that they are few and far between. Brooklyn really doesn’t have an ounce of leverage in their current state, and teams know that they are desperate for picks, young talent, and a future. Clubs aren’t going to sell the farm to try and attain a player like Young or even Brook Lopez to thus appease the Nets’ desires.

With that in mind, it’s hard to ultimately fault the Nets for not being able to make a move, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing when you get down to it. The Nets are just as depressing as they were going into Thursday’s deadline and that’s a tough position to be in.
