Morris Claiborne, Cornerback

Speaking of cornerbacks picked in the top ten by Dallas, Morris Claiborne was the highest-rated defender coming into the 2012 draft. The LSU corner was so highly thought of by the ‘Boys that they traded their first and second-round selections to move up for him and take him sixth-overall.

Claiborne has yet to live up to his draft selection, and Dallas looks to have overpaid for his services. In his four seasons, Claiborne has recorded 125 tackles and just three interceptions. In 2015, Claiborne had no interceptions and Dallas declined his fifth-year option.

So why should Minnesota be interested? Because the problem for Mo may not be talent. The young corner has missed 24 games in his career due to injury and has yet to fully participate in offseason programs and training camp. Another issue is Dallas simply offers up bad cornerbacks. Brandon Carr looked solid, then came to Dallas and has been a bust. Terence Newman looked done with the Cowboys, but had a career re-birth after leaving.

The Cowboys simply fail to use corners to their best ability and even with their poor coaching in that regard, Claiborne often found himself in good position as he has recorded 21 pass deflections in his career. At 26 years old, the Vikings could get a steal by snatching up a talented player for way less than market value. The potential reward would be worth the contract that Claiborne would command on the open market.
