2016 NFL offseason needs: San Francisco 49ers
Free Agents to Target
If there’s one upside to a roster bottoming out and bringing in a new head coach to shape the roster in his image, the San Francisco 49ers have almost $50 million in cap space to work with and very few free agents of their own. That means while adding young players in the draft, the 49ers can throw some money at big names to fill in the gaps.
One guy they should target is Denver Broncos defensive lineman Malik Jackson. The beauty of Jackson is that he’s a dominant force up front and can play almost anywhere along the defensive line. The 49ers made a good draft pick last year in Arik Armstead and they could continue to make more noise along the defensive line by bringing in Jackson.
He won a Super Bowl on the field at Levi’s Stadium and could continue to roll there. Their will be plenty of teams after him, but the 49ers have the money to compete with just about anyone for him in a bidding war.
When a team needs as much help at as many areas as the 49ers, they could target plenty of positions with the money that they have available to them. They could use more secondary help and Trumaine Johnson is a cover cornerback that could provide a great boost to the secondary.
The key for the 49ers should be to sign a couple of big impact free agency and then load up in the draft with the bevy of draft picks that they have.
