What To Do With Doug Martin?

Doug Martin finished last season as the third best back in ESPN.com standard leagues. He entered into the 2015 season with very mild expectations and was drafted sometimes in the seventh round or later. He proved to be an incredible value pick and returned to the form that he had shown in his  rookie season.

Martin will enter into this coming season as a free agent and most people seem to think he will likely be donning a new uniform. The Buccaneers are said to be a bit worried about signing him to a huge money deal after dealing with injuries and inconsistencies. There is a good chance that Martin could wind up in a Cowboys uniform which could bode extremely well for his fantasy value. There is also a shot he could wind up as a Redskin and that might not be so bad either.

For the sake of fantasy football and Doug Martin’s value I would love nothing more than to see him as a Cowboy and running behind that offensive line. On the outside shot of Martin landing back with the Bucs I like that too. One might wonder if he will allow a huge contract to weigh him down and cause him to not do so well I suppose you could be right.

I still think that Doug Martin has plenty left in the tank and as long as he lands in a decent situation he should be a good fantasy football asset for 2016. As far as how I would handle him for 2016 I think I would probably draft him as a top seven or eight runner. I like him in both PPR and standard formats. He is not a spectacular pass catching back, but in the right offense he has the skills to excel in that format.

Martin finished with 288 carries for 1402 yards with a 4.9 yard per carry average which is pretty nice. He only found the end zone 6 times on the ground but he was still a highly successful fantasy back. He also had 33 catches for 271 yards with a score and helped his value ever so slightly in PPR formats.

I like the fact that Martin managed to do what he did on under 300 carries and the fact that he is still only 27 years old. He should still have a few more years left before he hits that inevitable decline that hits all running backs in the NFL.

Doug Martin makes for a good prospect for dynasty and keeper leagues. If you can get him at a good price he would make for a good addition to your fantasy football team. I would probably not overspend on him until I knew what team he is going to play with next year, but he could be a nice gamble.

So to sum it up I want to see where Martin lands next year, but most likely he would be a solid pick as the seventh back off the draft board and a solid buy for keeper and dynasty leagues.
