player. 53.
Just a few months ago, it would have been abjectly insane to project Carson Wentz as even the top quarterback selected in this draft, much less the number two overall pick. However, the FCS standout was one of the best players at the Senior Bowl and scouts both inside and outside of team structures seem to be hailing Wentz as a future NFL stud.

In truth, the Browns should absolutely move out of this pick if they don’t love any of the available quarterbacks, but given that we aren’t projecting trades here, a quarterback makes sense. Some have pointed to Wentz’s arm talent as a reason to select him over Jared Goff, and if Cleveland’s new front office structure values that type of pure upside, this pick would make some sense.

An ideal world for the Browns would be to move down, still take a quarterback (Goff? Paxton Lynch?) and add much needed talent to a roster that is barren at more than a few spots. However, the biggest need is at the quarterback position in the wake of the Johnny Manziel fallout, and it would not surprise anyone if Cleveland went down swinging yet again with a big-time investment at the most important position on the field.
.
