30: Minnesota Wild

Nick Leddy has close ties to the state of Minnesota. He was born in Eden Prairie and played there in high school, and then he played for the Golden Gophers at the collegiate level before he got selected 16th overall by the Wild. So it’s a bit of a surprise that the Wild traded him before he even got a chance to play at the pro level.

It turned out to be their loss. He was dealt, along with Kim Johnsson, to the Chicago Blackhawks who had just come off of a Stanley Cup championship. He developed well within the organization and was surrounded by premier talents like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook. All told, Leddy got to experience Cup success with the Blackhawks in the 2012-13 season, when he played every game and collected 20 points. He then got dealt to the New York Islanders where he has posted a career high in goals (10) and points (37).

Cam Barker was a highly touted defensive prospect who won back-to-back gold at the World Juniors with Canada. He posted some impressive numbers with the Blackhawks when they were underwhelming, including 40 points in his fourth season as a pro. The Wild thought they were getting a stud, but in two seasons combined, Cam Barker scored 12 points. They would later place him on waivers with the intention of buying him out. He has since bounced around with the Oilers and Canucks before moving to the KHL, but at least he’s a Spengler Cup winner now.
