23: Washington Capitals

Filip Forsberg, no relation to Peter, was a highly touted prospect for the Capitals, being part of a Sweden team that unexpectedly won gold at the World Juniors in 2012. He could’ve been part of something special with the Caps, but he got traded to the Nashville Predators before he even played a game in the NHL. In return, the Capitals received Michael Latta and Martin Erat.

Erat was a nightmare for the Caps to deal with ever since he arrived. His numbers were poor, and he demanded a trade within the first month of the season. That led to him being demoted to the fourth line to just being a healthy scratch altogether. Michael Latta is still relatively young and has spent most of his time in the AHL, but certainly hasn’t developed as well as Forsberg has.

2014-15 was Forsberg’s breakout year as he put up 30 goals and 69 points. He should’ve been a Calder Finalist, but he took out his frustrations in the playoffs when he scored four goals in six games, including the first playoff hat trick in Predators history.

He also did all of that with Mike Ribeiro as his center. Just imagine the numbers he could’ve put up if he was playing alongside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Maybe the Capitals wouldn’t have blown it against the Rangers last season.
