4. Phoenix Suns

If there was a checklist of reasons for why the Phoenix Suns would make sense for Derrick Rose, they could check them all off. They love point guards and Derrick Rose is indeed one. They have a track record for extending player’s careers with a top-notch medical staff. They also are star-hungry and would overpay for a player like Rose, especially considering he’ll still be in his 20’s when he hits free agency.

Now, the Suns are currently overloaded with guards on the roster and will probably begin making moves this off-season. That could very well mean moving Brandon Knight or Eric Bledsoe, or possibly both if they find another point guard option.

The Suns are finally embracing a youth movement, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not going to aim for star free agents. Even if they have little to no success, they’re not going to abandon their strategy of aiming for the best names on the board.

The Suns have young talent in Devin Booker, Alex Len, Archie Goodwin, T.J. Warren and an overseas prospect in Bogdan Bogdanovic. They also have what will be a top pick in this year’s draft and possibly a late lottery pick from the Washington Wizards. Needless to say, the Suns are going to have a nice crop of young talent. They have 10 first-round picks over the next six seasons.

They also have veteran pieces in P.J. Tucker and Tyson Chandler. While things aren’t going good right now, if they can continue to let the young guys develop and start to show some signs of promise, adding in a piece like Rose could bring everything together.

Too often, teams try to go route or the other when building teams. Doing a hybrid of both can be effective as well, if done properly.
