2016 NFL Free Agency: 5 teams who should sign Doug Martin
By John Buhler
Doug Martin is a two-time Pro Bowl running back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here are the five teams that should target him in 2016 NFL Free Agency.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is coming off another impressive season in 2015. Martin made his second career trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii and earned his first ever All-Pro selection. He rushed for 1,402 yards on 288 carries for six touchdowns, while catching 33 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown with the 2015 Buccaneers.
The former No. 31 overall pick by the Buccaneers in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Boise State will have his first opportunity to test the free agency market. Given that Martin is only 27 years old and still in his prime as a running back, he could command a lucrative three or four-year deal on the free agency market as he approaches his late 20s and early 30s in the NFL.
Over his first four NFL seasons with the Buccaneers, Martin has proven that he can be the steady bell-cow back for any NFL team. He has great vision, fantastic breakaway speed, and can even make some big plays out of the backfield as a receiver. Martin is likely the biggest name to hit the 2016 free agency market at the tailback position.
With easily three years of prime football left in Martin’s tank, he’ll certainly command a big offer during contract negotiations this spring. Here are five NFL teams that should highly consider signing Martin to a new deal this free agency period.
