As much fun as it would be for Kevin Durant to sign somewhere in 2016 NBA free agency, re-upping with the Oklahoma City Thunder for one more year is the best and most logical option for Durant to make this summer. He’s already got a superstar teammate in Russell Westbrook, who will hit free agency in Summer 2017 when the NBA Salary Cap is set to explode.

Durant could give it at least one more year of trying to win an NBA Title with the Oklahoma City Thunder before he and Westbrook hit free agency together next summer. The situations where Durant and Westbrook could play together with a different team are high unlikely.

While the Golden State Warriors are the best team in the NBA in 20 years and the San Antonio Spurs are the best dynasty of the last 15, why should Durant hastily decide to blow up something that is already pretty special with Westbrook, power forward Serge Ibaka and the rest of the Thunder?

Though there are teams in the NBA that have deeper rosters than Oklahoma City, the Thunder now have an iconic college coach in Billy Donovan on the sidelines, trying to turn this great team into an NBA Champion. With social media making it easier than ever to reach NBA fans, it’s not imperative to play in a major basketball market to transcend the sport.

While it is very much up in the air with regards to what both Durant and Westbrook wish to do in two summers, expect Durant to sign a one-year deal with the Thunder this summer to give it at least one more year of dominance in OKC before entering free agency together with Westbrook.
