2. An unmatched level of young, everyday talent

The Cubs coming of age a year ago was not fueled by an excess of free agent spending, rather, it was done by their long-term development of young talent paying out all at once.

Kris Bryant launched 36 home runs and drove in 99 runs in route to being crowned National League Rookie of the Year. Kyle Schwarber launched 21 total home runs between the regular and postseason, yet did not make his Major League debut until June 16. Another rookie, shortstop Addison Russell, delivered on his top prospect promise by tagging 13 home runs, driving 54 runs, all while being a highlight reel fixture in the field.

Add in the presence of multi-tooled infielder Javier Baez, as well as outfielder Jorge Soler, both of which have just begun to scratch the surface of their potential, and it is more than fair to say that few teams can match the productivity of the Cubs’ lineup.

What is more is that none of the aforementioned players have seen their 25th birthday yet, and only Soler and Baez have been on a Major League roster for Opening Day in their young careers.
