High Value PG

Deron Williams-Dallas Mavericks (5,900): Williams is riskier than the high-salary PG’st due to the fact that he’s playing through a dislocated finger. He was able to pop it back in place and play 35 minutes on Wednesday, so he should be able to play his normal minutes tonight in a good matchup against the Nuggets who allow the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing PG. Williams had posted 29+ fantasy points in four straight games before finishing with just 24.6 fantasy points in the game he dislocated his finger and he has 22 points, four boards, and four assists when he last faced the Nuggets.  He has been playing well lately and as long as his injury doesn’t radically affect his shot he should be a solid play tonight in a plus matchup.

Dennis Schroder-Atlanta Hawks (5,300): Schroder has been excellent coming off the bench for the Hawks the last few games with over 27 fantasy points in each of his last four games including a 48.6-fantasy-point performance agsaint the Bucks on Sunday.  He followed his near triple-double with 18 points and six assists in just 18 minutes against the Warriors for 28.6 fantasy points. He’s stuck behind Jeff Teague in the Hawks lineup for now, but when he gets the time he produces very impactful results.  Against a banged up Bulls team, I like Schroder to post another solid game with the upside to do much more if he gets expanded playing time.

D’Angelo Russell-Los Angeles Lakers (5,200): Russell is still a cheap investment for a starter especially a starter who has the upside of the rookie out of Ohio State.  Russell has finally been put in the starting lineup and showed he can deliver posting 37.8 fantasy points on Wednesday against Memphis on 22 points, eight assists, and four rebounds.  He doesn’t produce the same high-impact numbers per minute as Schroder but he does get regular playing time now that he’s starting which makes him worth a look tonight. ∗∗

Cory Joseph-Toronto Raptors (4,300): Yes, Joseph is the backup, but he continues to be a solid producer at an affordable price.  Joseph has at least 25 fantasy points in three of his last four games and at least 15 fantasy points in each of his last ten.  He doesn’t have eye-popping numbers but comes off the bench behind Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan usually chipping in 10-15 points and a about a handful of assists.  He doesn’t have a super-high ceiling, but he’s a pretty safe cheap pickup.

Jose Juan Barea-Dallas Mavericks (3,500): If you have to dive into the cheap dice-roll options at PG, Barea could end up getting more time tonight depending on how Deron Williams’ finger fares and whether the Mavs can run away from Denver.  Barea has the upside to produce when his shot is dropping, but he also is coming off a down game against the Thunder when he only played 12 minutes and finished with six fantasy points. He has 19+ fantasy points in five of his last ten, though, so the potential is there even though he is high-risk.
