Report: Peyton Manning expected to announce retirement next week
By Jack Crosby
Peyton Manning will apparently be hanging up the cleats and he is expected to announce it next week.
Since the Denver Broncos went into Super Bowl 50 and had their way with the Carolina Panthers, the question on everyone’s mind has been whether or not Peyton Manning will be calling it a career after capturing his second Lombardi Trophy. He shied away from inquiries about it after the game and really hasn’t talked about it since the win.
Well, next week that might be changing.
According to a report from the Denver Post, Manning has made the decision to hang it up after one of the more illustrious careers in the history of the NFL and he’s expected to confirm this at the end of next week. It’s not a shocking move by any means, but it’s just one that we’ve been waiting on a definitive answer about in the last couple weeks and now it looks as if we’ll be getting that.
Manning was the No. 1 overall pick out of Tennessee in the 1998 draft by the Indianapolis Colts, and he eventually brought that franchise back to prominence. He won Super Bowl 41 with the Colts, defeating the Chicago Bears on a rainy evening down in Miami. He’d stay with the team until the 2012 season, which is when he moved on to the Broncos when the organization decided that they wanted Andrew Luck to be their quarterback of the future.
During his time with the Broncos, Manning made two Super Bowl appearances, winning last month and dropping one appearance by the team two seasons ago against the Seattle Seahawks.
