2. Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have been a terrible franchise in the NFL for a bit now. While their vaunted ’85 defense may well still stake claim to the best defense in history, they certainly could not argue the quality of their defense now. During the regular season, the Bears were able to create 35 sacks, 10th worst in the league, and struggled against the pass on the whole, hauling in only eight interceptions.

The ’85 Bears defense was based on pressurizing the quarterback. This current team struggles greatly in that area, and Von Miller is the best in the business. Moreover, he has a nose for the big play, something that Chicago’s defense could not create last year. The Bears are also only spending $35 million of their 2016 cap on defense, in comparison to $62 million on offense. They have a need, the money to spend, and they also have Von Miller’s old coach.

It should be no surprise to see John Fox pursue his star outside linebacker. Fox had great success, leading them to an AFC Championship in 2013, with Denver and was perhaps harshly fired last year. He was popular with the players, especially the vaunted defense, and if he got the opportunity to bring on one his best former players, he would surely find it tough to pass up on such an opportunity.
